Water levels remain high in Berkshire on Thursday morning, but there are no "severe" warnings in place.

Homes in Reading and towns downstream had been braced for flooding overnight.

However, the Environment Agency said they were unlikely to flood after water levels stabilised overnight, even though the Thames did burst its banks.

There are still flood warnings in place in some areas along the Thames, however, including the stretch from Little Wittenham in Oxfordshire to Pangbourne, and from Pangbourne to Shiplake in Oxfordshire.

Over the weekend, hundreds of homes and roads around Purley on Thames and Pangbourne were flooded, and flash flooding caused damage to properties in Maidenhead. Homes in Charvil and Winnersh were also hit.

Two people have died in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, after they tried to pump water from a flooded rugby club.

Three flood warnings - not severe - remained in place in the county on Thursday morning, all on the River Severn.

The stretches concerned are around Sandhurst and Maisemore, between Worcester and Tewkesbury, and from Tewkesbury to upstream of Gloucester, including Deerhurst and Ashleworth.

Thousands of people are still without mains water in Gloucester after floods hit a treatment plant.

Severn Trent has been putting water bowsers on the streets, and the Army has been distributing bottled water.

Some residents in Tewkesbury, however - earlier cut off by the floods - could get mains water back on Thursday for 12 hours, but it will not be drinkable.

The Environment Agency said on Thursday morning that water levels were no longer rising anywhere in Oxfordshire, where about 900 homes have been flooded in recent days.

In Wallingford and Henley water levels are expected to remain steady for the next 48 hours, before falling slowly.

About 150 homes in Oxford - mainly in the Osney and Botley areas - were flooded on Wednesday after Thames tributaries burst their banks.

The Environment Agency said many homes in the north of Oxford were saved by the Kidlington flood defence scheme.

In Abingdon, 570 properties were flooded.

Three severe flood warnings are still in place - one for the River Ock from Charney Bassett to Abingdon, and the other two for the Thames - from Eynsham to Sandford-on-Thames, and from Sandford-on-Thames to Little Wittenham.

A flood warning is also in place along the stretch of the Thames from Lechlade to Eynsham, and from Shiplake to Hurley.

And in the south of Oxford, there are still about 200 homes without electricity. Southern Electric say it cannot begin work on fixing the supply until water levels have dropped.

Two of the main roads into Oxford, Botley Road and Abingdon Road, remain closed.
